About the Piece:

“Engar” is a musical journey shaped by the delicate dialogue between qanun and clarinet, rooted in the aesthetics of Iranian and Turkish music. Falling within the World Music genre, the piece blends melodic textures from East and West, aiming to create an atmosphere that is at once soothing and romantic, yet occasionally tense and emotionally charged, much like the emotional landscapes of love, longing, and memory.

The composition explores the expressive potential of the qanun in fusion with rich percussive rhythms and clarinet phrases that drift between tenderness and turbulence.

As described by composer Mojgan Hoseyni:

“Engar” is imagination — a vision, a belief. A moment stretched infinitely between past and future, weaving time into emotion. It is the lament of a present lover, lost in the imagined absence of the beloved’s flowing hair.
